What is Collaborative Horsemanship?

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of learning from many different mentors and horsemen, each with their own unique approach to horsemanship. I’ve taken what I’ve learned and made it my own—a kind of horsemanship collage. That’s why I call my program collaborative horsemanship. It’s not just one way of doing things; it’s a combination of the best insights from all of my experiences.

For me, horsemanship is all about working with your horse, not against them. It’s not about training on your horse, but about teaching your horse. When you work in partnership with them, both you and your horse come away better for the experience. I’ve always said that the best thing you can do for a horse is to train them well. A well-trained horse is a safe horse, and they’ll live a long, happy life, valued wherever they go.

How We Collaborate With Horses

In collaborative horsemanship, we recognize that horses are flight animals who are always seeking release from pressure. If we can make what we’re asking them to do feel like their idea, then achieving our goals becomes so much easier. By making the right thing easy and the wrong thing difficult, your horse will naturally choose the path of least resistance.

As Ray Hunt used to say, "Set it up and let them find it." That’s exactly what we strive for at Cowboy Campus University—setting up goals and letting the horse discover the answer on their own. This is where the real collaboration happens between horse and rider. It’s not about forcing or demanding; it’s about creating a partnership where both of you grow and improve together.

Ready to Collaborate?

If this sounds like the kind of approach you want for you and your horse, then sign up for the clinic on October 19th! Spaces are limited, so be sure to secure your spot by reaching out to us at keith.cowboycampus@gmail.com

If you can’t make it to the clinic, I highly recommend checking out my Fundamental Horsemanship Course, where you’ll get instant access to 25 modules of content that take the guesswork out of training your horse. It’s meaningful, fun, and you’ll have my guidance every step of the way.

I’m not saying it won’t ever be difficult, but together, we’ll make the process rewarding for both you and your horse.

Let’s work together to make your horse the best they can be. See you in the arena!
